USDA regulations around slaughterhouses are oppressive throughout the mainland, too, this has nothing to do with liberal Democrats.

As the article states, it’s already incredibly easy to get a hunting license. For $20 a year, there are no limits and the season is endless. It would be beneficial if the USDA would cut their own red tape to accommodate commercial harvesting and processing operations. Done at scale, it could be profitable to export a delicious kind of venison, not just to the mainland, but to Japan and other parts of Asia.

You could control the population by stopping the sterilization at any time and starting it again when needed.

Remember when the GREENS whiped out the Big Horn Sheep on the Big Island with Hellicopter gun ships ! And left over 10 thousand rotting Sheep carcases on the lava fields !

Or dingoes from Australia. Sure, they are not native but neither are the axis deer.

The article notes that the state constitution dates back to 1950, and the precedent is based on 1892. The Democratic party did not gain significant political power in Hawaii until the big political upheaval in 1954. Prior to that, Hawaii was a consistently republican territory. So policies dating to 1953 or earlier can, in fact, be blamed on republicans.

I’m sorry , I have to agree with the dude from Texas ..it’s just math ..and most of deer are on private ranch property . The ranch manages the deer as they see fit ..the deer are established just as mongoose ….and humans are …all are invasive mammals to Hawaii . Put up your field fencing …

This article opens by stating there should be no mammals in the state except our two natives : Howery bats and I’ll add monk seals . It goes on to describe animals brought into the stats by humans for their use as “ invasive “
People have brought animals in to Hawaii to exploit and then later complain they need to be irradiated. That has to be the most entitled attitude I have ever heard. The most invasive mammal are Humans ! How do we deal with the human overpopulation? You see my point , humans feel so superior with no accountability.

There is no doubt the axis deer population should be sustainable for the environment and the health of the animal . The problem on Maui is most of them are on private ranch land and there is not a FDA approved facility to process deer meat for sale . The animals can not be irradiated as the King brought them in the late 1800s for subsistence.

The management of Axis deer is complicated and no where near under control . But the entitled attitudes of people reveals how they continue to think only of themselves as their best interests .
