We want to hear from you.
We at Modern Farmer are looking ahead to a whole new year of stories and reporting that will help inform and enable people to get involved and help build a more equitable and resilient food system.
We’ve got plenty of plans, but one of our most important priorities is to do more connecting with and listening to our reader community. With that in mind, we want to hear from you.
- Got an idea for a topic or person we should write about? Our readers are a great source of ideas, tips and feedback. For instance, one of our most-read stories of the year, about the plight of livestock guardian dogs, came from a reader tip left as a comment on our social media.
- Have a perspective you think our readers might be interested in? We sourced stories on the thorny topic of farmland succession from our reader community, and want to do more work that amplifies the real voices and experiences of people working in the food system.
- Have general feedback or questions about what’s we’re doing? We’d love to hear it.
Tell us what’s on your mind by leaving a comment below, or using this form to share your thoughts with us. We look forward to hearing from you.
Would like to see some of the modern techniques used in Organic farming that have their origins in Albert Howard’s
Howard, Albert Book: “An Agricultural Testament”

Would love you explore chem trails, geo engineering and how the earth is being exploited thru altered chemistry. It contributes to the change in weather and the destruction of the ph in soil. Great documentation in, “What are they spraying.” Mexico and Japan have refused for their countries to be sprayed. Unfortunately you can not fool Mother Nature.
Topic: How can family farms use the emerging field of Artificial Intelligence to positively impact small farm operations?
Food waste. Everyone can help reduce it and divert food from landfills where it produces methane. The low- hanging fruit when it comes to Doing Something about climate change.
There is increasing use of productive farm land for solar farms. Are people trying to continue some type of farming under solar panels?
I’d like to see more stories about the need for small, mixed, regenerative farms & how that can not only be a viable form of carbon sequestration (assuming you’re not taking money to offset polluters), but also how these are desperately needed in communities around the world. I’d love to see more focus on how big ag has destroyed the land, created food with little nutritional value, and stifled small farms ability to harvest livestock, etc. I am a middle aged, recently-new farmer who moved from Texas to Nova Scotia.
I would like to see the audience be introduced to Doug Tallami -his views on planting native plants that support native insects that are needed to support the native birds and other species
Permaculture, especially in the States. I suggest Mark Shepard and Don Tipping.
Thank you!
Some articles on aquaculture as it has the potential to be a source of sustainable protein for the future, especially when combined with using the waste water for vegetable/fruit/crop farming
I would like to see a cost analysis for all aspects of growing, refrigerated shipping, distribution warehouse storage, and delivery to grocery markets for vegetables grown in the US Southwest and sold in the Northeast VS all aspects of growing in controlled environments (large greenhouses and repurposed commercial real estate) in the Northeast for the Northeast markets.
